89plus Event Poster

I was approached by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Simon Castets to design a poster for their 2014 panel event which happened recently at the Design Indaba in Cape Town at the CTICC. Featuring five local artists and/or photographers, I began to design the poster with minimal guidence in terms aesthetics and visual.

89plus in short is a collaborative database consisting of creatives from a broad range of different diciplinaries. So when designing the poster I adopted the base philosophy of 89plus which is that it collects creatives who were born in the period of 1889 and onwards. Emphasising on the fact that it was a year of progress and significant events - such as the birth of the world wide web.

Being limited to an online platform, there is more leeway to text positioning and legibility as apposed to a printed poster that needs to be legibly laid out for quick observation. Being part of the Y generation/Millenials, it creates a somewhat nostalgic presence thus bringing a technological panache and bitmap styled visade. Somehow it shows the tales of an accelereated culture through its eclectic layout.
